Hello,

Please call or email to ask me about any aspect of the work, there is no right or wrong question to ask. I'll definitely want to know the approximate widths of the alcoves/proposed spaces so I can confirm the quotes in the price list or suggest options before any visit is arranged. Please see items in red, listed below, for other helpful clues as to how I work.

Please read the following information if you would like a visit

1,  I only make the units shown on this site, the basic design can be replicated to fill any width of        alcove or wall. To avoid a potentially wasted visit please look at the photos, this is what your          units will look like. Outsized widths may require extra doors or extra shelving solutions, there is      no limit really and most prices are here or available on request. The prices include your choice        of door mouldings from 30’s to shaker to full “period” style.

2, Please email your alcove widths for a price confirmation, if wider than 120 cm I can suggest            options or please see those already noted on the price lists.

3, My units do not have internal cladding/walls or floors, as per period examples (because                  internal walls can cause damp issues)

4, I don't make or supply drawers.

5, I use mdf with pine mouldings and pine shelf fronts (no veneers or plastics)

6, You will need to remove old units/ to restore walls or floors in preparation for your new units.

7, Most South London areas covered, I'm based in SE19, some areas might incur extra cost if very      far distant, so please indicate where you live at the outset, just in case.

My wife and I started building free-standing furniture back in 1988

and then in around 1997 we moved to Crystal Palace and began

our journey into making built-in furniture. My wife Naomi is a

professional painter and paints the units (x3 coats) here in our

workshops and often performs the 4th final coat on site too.

If you order our units you’ll be buying a pre-designed product.

The design is pretty much set in stone but we can offer a small

choice of different door mouldings. To successfully operate a price

list, I’ve rationalised what I offer for a set price. Extra shelves and

multiple door units are available, as my system allows for any space

to be accommodated by adjusting the proportions accordingly or

by repeating the basic design. My fitting process is a well rehearsed

act, we’re approaching 2000 units currently so the fitting works can

virtually be timed to a window of a couple of hours.

Fitting a pair of units will be completed within 2 days depending

on whether extra features/shelves are requested. Even a single unit

will take place over 2 days to allow for the undercoats on cut edges

to dry overnight and then for the final painting to be completed.

Testimonials

"Just wanted to say how happy we are with our new alcove fitted bookcases and cupboards. It's only been a couple of days but it already feels like they've been there forever because they fit so perfectly with the room.

We appreciated your prompt and friendly service - the fact that you started and finished exactly when you said you would and left the place in a good state afterwards was great. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to friends.”  Dominique, Brixton

"the alcoves look absolutely stunning, we just stare at them in disbelief" Raj, Beckenham

“Nigel can transform the darkest of corners and most awkward of spaces with his wonderful wardrobes and shelves.  Armed with his tape measure and power drill not a moment is wasted as he works (and talks) at lightning speed.  He has fitted wardrobes and bookshelves for me over the years and was true to his word that the wardrobes would actually make my bedroom look bigger. I highly recommend Nigel.”  Rachel, Dulwich

"Nigel built 2 alcove shelf units and 2 alcove wardrobes for me. I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted, but at the initial consultation Nigel was full of neat ideas that improved on my own plans, but without compromising my requirements in any way.

I was coming to the end of a complicated complete property renovation. I was very anxious during this period as the project was becoming like assembling a jigsaw puzzle against the clock. It was essential that Nigel complete his work in short order on four specific days, which we agreed over a month in advance, so as to not get in the way of other tradesman (it is a small one bed flat).

Nigel was true to his word, continually re-assuring me via email in the run up to the build that he would deliver. He did not let me down and even completed the work a day early. He left no mess and generally went about his work in an efficient, yet relaxed and sunny manner. At no stage was I in any doubt that I had picked the right man for the job.

I was extremely pleased with the end results, which exceeded my expectations. The units are of very high quality and finish. I was surprised to find that the shelf units actually made my living room seem bigger. They were the icing on the cake of my entire renovation.

Nigel is clearly a skilled carpenter. I am sure he could build many things, but he specialises in alcove cupboards and wardrobes which he has down to a fine art. I see the money I paid him as invested, not spent.

 Thanks Nigel! “     Matt, Lewisham

“.... you know when you find a gem, you either want to keep it a secret or tell everyone. Well, Nigel Eaton Alcove Cupboards is one of those gems!

I love the way Nigel and Naomi take care of their customers and I have so many of their lovely cupboards in my house - keeping them a secret is not an option!!”

Julia, Crystal Palace

" Nigel built all the wardrobes and alcoves in our Edwardian house and

we love them. He has a great eye for detail and works with speed and

precision, while still being very accommodating and flexible when

needed. I would recommend him to anyone (and indeed already have!)"

Irem, Dulwich

"We have had Nigel make several wardrobes and a cupboard for us.  His

work is of high quality and we have been pleased with the results.  He

is tidy, punctual and has a very pleasant manner.  He came up with some

useful ideas on how our built-in furniture should look and the results

have been highly successful.  We are happy to recommend him".

Robert, Herne Hill

"We have used Nigel twice over the past two years for our bedroom

wardrobes and living room alcoves. In both instances we have been

delighted with the quality, speed and tidiness of his work, and we have

recommended him  several times to friends. Nigel has also a very good

eye for design and optimising available space . We will surely call him

again." Maria, Dulwich,

"The wardrobes have transformed our rooms, actually making them appear more spacious! Apart from delivering a fantastic end result, Nigel is punctual, tidy, honest and friendly - we couldn't have asked for more."

Mr. & Mrs. Carpenter West Norwood
